Stockland has revealed it will build 542 apartments for its mixed-use project adjacent to its Merrylands Shopping Centre property in Sydney's west, cementing its return to apartment development.

The company, which had previously dabbled in smaller apartment projects in Cammeray and Balgowlah in Sydney's north, has lodged a development application with Cumberland Council to construct the apartments across five 11- to 17- storey towers on a 1.2-hectare development site, bordered by Merrylands Road, Treves Street and McFarlane Street.

Chinese Company Submits $500m Sydney CBD Project Proposal

In a move which indicates continuing investment interest from Chinese companies, China’s Han’s Holdings lodged an application for a mixed use development worth nearly $500 million with one of the tallest buildings in Sydney's CBD.

According to the The Australian, the proposed development will be built on a massive envelope comprising six blocks in the city centre - 241-243 Castlereagh Street, 245-247 Castlereagh Street, 249-253 Castlereagh Street, 126 Liverpool Street, 332-336 Pitt Street, and 338-348 Pitt Street

Fairfax House the Centre of a Circular Quay Revamp

Shanghai developer AXF Group and its silent, joint-venture partner, Ever Bright Group , have big plans for Sydney’s Fairfax House, which the firms paid $55 million for in February.

The deal, is part of a wider play in the Circular Quay precinct.

The agents declined to comment when contacted and it is believed the joint venture is trying to secure the Rugby Club building next door, located on Rugby Place, off 31 Pitt Street.

This would then put the partnership in a strategic position to snap up the adjacent Gold Fields House, owned by the Valad consortium, at 1 Alfred Street, Sydney.

Largest Ever Chinese Development: Proposal for 3,500 Apartments

AUSTRALIA YMCI, backed by Chinese sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corporation has bought an industrial property near Sydney Olympic Park for more than $660 million from the Goodman Group.

It is understood to be the largest ever residential development by a Chinese mainland group in Australia.

Australia YMCI has engaged designers Woods Bagot for the concept plan for the Carter Street site.

VIG Buys 126 Liverpool Street and 338 Pitt Street for $102 Million

Rising developer and investment company, Visionary Investment Group, and its partners have finalised the acquisition of two commercial buildings at 126 Liverpool Street and 338 Pitt Street in Sydney for $102 million on Friday.

The Chinese-backed VIG, led by chief executive Michael Guo, picked up the assets from fund manager, AMP Capital Investors.

338 Pitt Street is one of the many older office towers in Sydney. Both buildings are on a corner site opposite World Square at the Town Hall part of the central business district, and have significant residential upside.

R&F Properties Reveals Kinnears Ropeworks Plans in Melbourne

China’s R&F Properties has submitted plans for a 1400-apartment project on the Kinnears Ropeworks site in Melbourne’s gentrifying Footscray.

The $13.5 billion Guangzhou-based, Hong Kong-listed developer has submitted a planning application to Maribyrnong City Council for a $350 million development on a site at 124-188 Ballarat Road, about 5km from the CBD.

The group last year bought the parcel for $60m from Richard Gu’s AXF Group, in a deal brokered by CBRE. It was one of many sites that Mr Gu has flipped for a healthy profit, buying it in 2007 for just $17m.

‘Neighbourhood’ Vision for City Tower: Vision Investment’s Billion-Dollar Plan

CHINESE-backed developer Vision Investment Group is eyeing a billion-dollar-plus luxury apartment and hotel project with Richard Gu’s AXF Group after agreeing to buy a Sydney CBD office tower for $156 million.

VIG yesterday entered into an agreement with GDI Property Group to buy 233 Castlereagh Street, which has long been flagged as a residential and hotel conversion. The deal is expected to settle in September next year.

It is likely to be part of an overhaul of the entire block bounded by Castlereagh, Pitt, Bathurst and Liverpool streets.

In a separate deal, an entity associated with China Investment Options is circling 338 Pitt Street for about $105m with apartment and hotel development plans.

Triguboff Buys Unit Block in Macquarie Park

Veteran developer Harry Triguboff has made his first strata-unit site amalgamation in his 56-year career, buying out 60 owners of an apartment development in Sydney’s Macquarie Park.

The 2-10 Cottonwood Crescent property, which spans a 4227sq m site, is occupied by five strata buildings, and forms part of the Waterloo-Cottonwood garden precinct.

Triguboff said the site, which sits close to the Westfield shopping centre and Macquarie University is located in “the best part of Macquarie Park”.
